Who is Julia Teweles?
Julia Teweles grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the eldest of four sisters.
Her first published work was the article “My Adventures on Lonely Sable Island,” which was published by the National Geographic Society in 1967.
She attended Beloit College in Wisconsin with a double major in Comparative Literature and International Relations, during which time she spent two years studying and working in France. In addition to her B.A. from Beloit, she has a degree from the University of Paris-Sorbonne in French Civilization. She is fluent in French.
After college, she lived in New York City for three years working in the motion-picture industry before moving to Los Angeles in 1977 where she raised private capital for the production of several feature films.
In 1984, her first novel, The Stalker, was published by Zebra Books. It has recently been republished in a new edition/e-book/audiobook by Macabre Ink., an imprint of Crossroads Press, and is available on Amazon.
In 1989, Teweles’ second novel, The Wilds, was published by Dell Books. It is being republished in the summer of 2025 by Fantom Books.
Teweles established Roxbury Publishing Company, a respected academic press that published books for the higher-education market. The disciplines she published in were sociology, criminology, criminal justice, women’s studies, gender studies, communication, and political science.

Teweles has been active as a volunteer and has served on the Board of the Odyssey Theatre, the Board of the Los Angeles League of Women Voters, volunteers at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, edits the Muleskinner (literary) Journal, and organizes speaker panels for individuals recovering from alcoholism and addiction. She also directs plays, is writing a memoir, and is cowriting a historical TV miniseries. Teweles lives in Los Angeles with her bicoastal daughter.My Books
